Bexhill and Battle Labour Party
Local campaigners from Bexhill and Battle Labour Party led by local Rother Councillor Mark Legg were at Bexhill Station and Battle Station raising awareness among the travelling public about proposals to close station ticket offices across our constituency.
The response from both commuters and station staff was overwhelmingly positive with many people keen to express their support for retaining ticket offices in Bexhill, Battle and across the Southern and South Eastern rail networks. With Local MP Huw Merriman’s ministerial role, the campaigners were particularly keen to emphasise that Huw could play a big part in saving ticket offices and their staff if he chose to. Campaigners will be writing to Huw Merriman MP about their campaign along with stories from individuals who would be affected by the possible closures being consulted on.
Mark Legg said, “Although online tools are useful they can’t replace the a human in the ticket office who can advise on the best time to travel, the best value fare or quickest route. We have heard some fantastic stories from people about how ticket office staff have gone the extra mile to help people and we would lose that if ticket offices were to close”. He went on to say, “We are proud to support hard working railway staff who have been campaigning for months to save jobs, save ticket offices and to make railways and stations safer’.
