One or two residents have drawn my attention to the condition of the indoor market and how run down it is beginning to look.
I’ve tracked down and been in touch with the owners, a property company based in Rugby. Rother District Council granted planning permission in 2020 to build 12 new flats. The company have now decided to put the development on hold as the permission they currently have is no longer financially viable.
While this is disappointing I am still in discussions with them about maintaining the property and I understand that they will be repairing the roof and redecorating the outside ‘shortly’. I am keeping an eye on the situation and will report to Rother planning officers for enforcement action if the buildings are allowed to deteriorate further. We must not allow this building to become derelict and an eyesore.
