General Election 2017

Labour's candidate Christine Bayliss with local supporters

People often ask me why I decided to stand as a Labour Candidate for this general election. The reason is quite simple. This is the most important General Election in my lifetime. Voters have the choice to vote for 5 more years of funding cuts to public services or for a different approach under Labour. It makes me incredibly angry and frustrated that we live in the sixth largest economy on the planet yet we have: an NHS on its knees, schools making teachers redundant, prisons in crisis, a navy without an operational aircraft carrier, roads not repaired and when was the last time we saw a bobby on the beat? It just doesn’t have to be like this. Other countries invest in their public services as a way of rebuilding their economies. Only in Britain do we punish public sector workers and the most vulnerable while the financiers and bankers who caused the economy to crash get off scot-free, aided by the Conservative government. That’s the reason why I decided to stand up and be counted. We need to make sure we make every available vote count for Labour - we may not win in Bexhill and Battle but we can raise issues, argue for our approach and highlight injustice. And to do that I need your help to raise a fighting fund for our campaign. Please visit our crowd funding page and support if you agree with me. We need a government for the many and not the few.
